ILA S SUCCESSFUL RATIFICATION VOTE LA RATIFIES MASTER AND LOCAL NEW YORK AGREEMENT
April 11th, 2013
STATEMENT OF JOSEPH C. CURTO, PRESIDENT NEW YORK SHIPPING ASSOCIATION, INC. ON THE ILAS SUCCESSFUL RATIFICATION VOTE APRIL 9, 2013 On behalf of the members of the New York Shipping Association I congratulate the leadership and members of the International Longshoremens Association on the successful ratification of the six-year Master Contract and the local New York agreement. The confidence displayed by the members of the ILA in their affirmative vote is an indication to management that we will cooperatively move forward and make great strides in improving the Port of New York and New Jerseys global competitiveness, as well as foster a mutually beneficial work environment. We have made positive advancements in which both management and labor can be proud. This contract permits us to begin an evolutionary progression of significant change that will improve the practices for working ships, hiring labor and paying key staff persons. I want to thank the leadership of the United States Maritime Alliance, specifically Jim Capo, for his commitment to getting the job done on the Master Contract and for his leadership through what were not always simple negotiations. We very much look forward to working with ILA President Harold Daggett and his team in implementing these far reaching and positive contract provisions.
